We are really excited about this threader and have been working on the design for the past few months with basket weaving teacher Delia Fian, from School of the Greenwood. Delia describes this as an essential tool for any weaver working with soft or fine material, such as bark, leaves, or split vines. Threaders can be used to tuck material in easily, such as when ending a weave or finishing a rim. This threader is designed for weaving baskets with 1/4 inch stakes or wider. It is approximately 6 inches long from tip to handle. Another name for this tool is a 'football lacer' as it is also used for fine lacing in leather working. Each tool is hand forged, so no tool is exactly identical, but the essential specifications, handle design and size for each threader tool are the same. We taper, saw and hand file each threader hole so that there are no sharp edges to cut material by accident, and so that the tool can move more easily through the basket weave.
All threader tools are hand forged and naturally finished with 100% beeswax to prevent rusting and provide resistance to moisture.
